I to love the "Larkrise books". I grew up very near to the Minack theatre mentioned in an earlier post by Lizziejane. It reminded me of our very near neighbours at the time whos house was called "Minack".(This was late 50s early 60s)the neighbours were Derek ane Jeanne Tangye who wrote the chronicles of minack about their life downshifting from London to growing flowers on the Cornish cliffs. One of the earliest "goodlifers"Away with the fairies.... I was just about to add that one of my favourite authors is Derek Tangye! Love his books but then I also love cats and donkeys! We stayed in a farmhouse just up the winding land from Minack last summer and walked around to Oliver Land - Magical! Wish I had met them though, I found his books many years too late for that! Would love to get a copy of Jean Nicol Tangyes book Meet me at the Savoy! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I lived in that winding lane!!! You may remember two little girls mentioned in "Donkeys in the meadow" My ten minutes of fame!!Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
I've already joined bookcrossing - another brilliant idea! Oh, I just love my books - I couldn't imagine life without them and I'm so grateful that I can read and write. If I'd been born a hundred years ago I would probably have been too poor to be educated! I've got so many books put by for my retirement - I usually get them in charity shops so they only cost pennies - I worry that I won't live long enough to read them! I think a house is not a home unless it has well-stocked bookshelves. OH has promised me a book-lined library one day! Oh, bliss!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Wow! You knew Fred! Which was your house? We stayed in the farmhouse next to the white house (now converted into a holiday home (Rosemondess) backs onto the cows, who were very friendly! It was such a lovely peaceful spot. I believe that Jane from the books now lives at Minack and is a talented flower grower. Obviously we didn't intrude and got to Oliver Land by the coastal path, something I am very proud of as I have cfs!
Just been listening to The Cherry Tree on tape. Will have to get out Donkeys in the Meadow next! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Has anyone else read 'My Wonderful Career Goes Bung' By Miles Franklin? She wrote it as a young girl in about 1900, so much of what she dreamt of has come to pass. It is a lovely story, inspirational and readable.

I lived in the very first cottage in the lane, when I lived there we had no electricity we got water from a pump in the lane had an outside loo ( lovely rhubarb!!) the roof leaked and my parents couldnt wait to get away. now its a"country cottage" that many people would love to own. Funny how times change. I had two friends whos father farmed at Rosmodres I used to ride up to their house on a horse and cart that dropped the milk churns to the bottom of the lane.Derek Tangye used to let us kids into the flower fields after they had been picked and we picked the stray flowers for our mums. Can I ask what cfs is? My friends son has c/f the same??Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -

Now, if we're talking telly there's a film I love for it's depiction of the simple life -Witness starring Harrison Ford and Kelly McGinnis. It's set in an Amish community in America. I love the clothes0

Another movie that I found like that Thriftlady is one called...........now I can't remember it properly but it's something like Tall & Plain. The name Sarah is in there as well. Would have been a great book.
It was an american film I think.
Edited: It's called Sarah, tall and plain.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0
