Council Tax claim after selling

Hello,

Does anyone know if I can claim for paying council tax for a property that I have just sold and which I believe to have been in the wrong band for many years??

Owned a Band C property for 10 years, upon using the Nationwide Calculator the property would appear to fall into Band B by some way.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Look at the 'council tax chat discussion thread'. Page 14 Jott's post #524 tells you. Also many other posts by zebedee and jamesiebabie.

You can't get a rebanding if you have left or sold a property. If the new owners apply for a rebanding and are successful then you can apply for your part of the refund.
Some voa/council areas refund to the past occupier automatically others do not. So check your previous residence to see if the band has changed.

Look on the voa website and see what the banding is now.
  • Thank you all, and to Masie for the advice... I'll watch my old house with interest now, maybe even speak with the new owners and see if they fancy a challenge. I challenged my banding many years ago and was unsucessful but times have changed and they may have better luck.

    Thanks again to you all
