ipad symbol

Hi all, just a quick question, Ive just been messing with my ipad and have noticed I now have a symbol in the top right next to the battery charge level that Ive never seen before.

Its a pic of a padlock inside an incomplete circle, anyone know what it is please and how I get shot of it. Cheers.

It's the screen rotation lock, activated via the switch below the volume rocker, when turned on it locks the screen to the orientation it was in when activated. To turn it off (and therefore remove the symbol) switch the switch again.

(just in case that switch is set to 'mute' on your device, swipe up from the bottom with 4 fingers (or double tap the home button) swipe the bar to the left (music controls) and tap the button that looks like the symbol)

You can also that switch to act as a mute button, in the same way as on the iphone.
