Can I Claim JSA?

Just a quick question really..

I've just finished my level 1 in college and I have been claiming EMA. My course finished 2 weeks ago and therefore I no longer receive EMA payments.

Am I eligible to claim JSA or will I need to wait because of my EMA?

Depends on other circumstances, are you 18, do you still live at home, are your parents receiving Child Benefit....

Only in certain circumstances can you cliam if 16/17.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.
  • I'm 19 & living at home. They don't claim child benefit any more for me. I think I would be okay to apply but the only thing I'm uncertain of is because of my EMA?

If your EMA has ceased you should be ok, ring 0800 055 66 88 first thing in the morning and start your claim to avoid missing out on benefit.

Once all the evidence is collated you will be informed of their decision.

Have you thought about an apprenticeship, visit a connexions, sure they will help with further courses/apprenticeships.

Are you sure your parents don't get Child Benefit, this would of been payable for a 19 yr old doing a level 1 as long as you started education before your 19th birthday.

Tax Credits would of been payable too dependant on household income.

    Good Luck

I've been looking for apprenticeships but there doesn't seem to be much at the moment, although I would be interested in one. Hmm could be something to look into tbh :)

Maybe think about what type of work you want to do and a few hours voluntary work would be priceless for experience and give you a head start on others of your age.

I have been training volunteers, advising on benefits and debt for a few years now and without the voluntary work i did, i would probably be working somewhere very unsuitable.
