Going through the process of starting a d.i.y claim for p.p.i.

Policy was taken out when mortgage was started in 1983 and is still running. I was very young and naive at the time but I'm convinced we have a valid claim.

we were told at the time:

1) We had to take the policy in order to get the mortgage

2) Certainly not told policy was optional

3) It was made apparent our mortgage application would not proceed if we didn't take policy.

Of course all of this was verbal, nothing written but the intention was clear.

Anyway, older and wiser, now going through claim procedure. Simple question. Where do I now send claim? Is it to Santander who took over B+B, or some other company.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi and welcome

Maybe Dunstonh will be along to advise further on this one, but with you being informed it was a policy that you had to take on with the mortgage and not optional, in my opinion this is a reason.
Although it maybe difficult to prove it as it was verbal, but you still have every chance of being successful.

Wait for Dunstonh, or maybe Magpiecottage etc who will I'm sure explain a little more on this one for you, good luck.;)

In 1983 that is quite probable. It used to be a requirement to take all sorts of insurance then. So, nothing wrong with that. However, if we assume it wasnt you have a number of issues:
1 - you cant prove it
2 - it is way before regulation.
3 - it is nearly 30 years ago. Chances are nothing exists.
    2) Certainly not told policy was optional

No need to be. Not a valid complaint reason.
    3) It was made apparent our mortgage application would not proceed if we didn't take policy.

What evidence do you have to support that allegation? You say none so you would expect a rejection on that basis.

You have the weakest of complaints going. It is all verbal allegations and you are talking 30 years ago. Is it even PPI you have and not life assurance maybe? PPI is a later product. It could be ASU but they were still rare until the late 80s.
