Hi,
Can anyone please help? I had a students loan in 1993. I have deferred it every year. I have been a couple of times late, and had to pay off some amounts because of this. I am now 52 years old. I have been told that they write off the debt when you are 50. If this is true then, I was 50 in 2010, so why was it not written off then? Does anyone know if this is true. Also, in 2009, they put a default on my credit file due to some money I owed (I think because of late deferment). I have since paid this in full, and received defferment forms in July 2011 which was accepted by them. Very complicated. I need the default removed.

As far as I know (Although no expert) they do scrap the debt unless their is any arrear's on the loan. If there are any late/ missed payments then you are not entitled to the loan being written off.

If all arrears and charges were repaid then the debt should have been written off although you should have telephoned or written to arrange this.0
