Huge gas bill in a short period

Insulation really makes a huge difference. If you don't have any then your boiler is constantly on the go and your house will still feel cold. I would sort the insulation out before you get rid of the boiler.0

Poppycat, I would leave changing the boiler till last as the cost will be difficult to recover. Your current heating setup possibly can be tuned for both comfort and economy. It would be interesting to see what the previous occupiers used.
35% of heat is lost through the roof, 25% through walls, so the loft and draughts ( as you have an open fireplace) are the most important. Plan ahead for next winter as this one is almost, hopefully at an end.ac's lovechild0 -
PS What you are using is less than our 4 bed semi used before we had cavity insulation installed, £145, via Npower even though we never use/d them for supply.ac's lovechild0

I agree totally with having the insulation. I was paying 60 a month for gas year before last. I had insulation put in in loft and got double glazing last year and I now pay 38 a month and I am also in credit by 78pound after the winter bill.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

I have already requesting insulation when I moved in, but all this takes time if I want it via grant.
I agree get it before boiler but I will get rid of it before next Winter sets in.
After the last few days feeling the cold even I am suffering and I normal walk around with just a top one, now it jumper and coat when heating isnt on.
I cant quite master our real fire, as I thought I would get some coal/logs etc at least that way I can pay my way, I normally am in credit with the bills.
Thanks all0
