oki doki, if you have any questions ask away and i will try to explain as much as i can - i think the only thing to think about above this is the internet connection and if you do need to get wireless for the desktop or if you are going to have it wired

wired is better for gaming as no lag or drop of signal but you have to put up with wires around the house or buy powerline adaptors which are about £30 for a cheap set
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I am so petrified of clicking the buttons on the custom build - I'm afraid I will do something so wrong and mess this up for my lad.

Can someone check this out which I have found. Is it as good as what Gonzo has recommended me in post 14? Scout i5 for £689.

I hate to do it, but if you're looking for a gaming machine, and don't want to custom build it, check out dell, as the links above are posted. You'll get a reasonably decent machine, but not at the best price (IMO)

However if you expect to walk into a comet, or currys, or god forbid a PC world and pick up a desktop for future gaming, you'll be mislead, mis-sold, or disappointed. They will all tell you an old machine will do it, cus frankly once you've paid it, and set it up and had it a few days, they're happy, you can't get a refund on a bad machine. (just check out the complaining threads about computers and laptops and being sold whatever from likes of pc world, comet, currys, dixons etc)

The previous posts have given you some good options for a good custom based machine that will last, and be future upgradable for some time, otherwise buy off the shelf with dell.

That will be more than enough for the games listed. I own an Alienware myself and can play most games on ultra and my spec is lower than that (It's 2 years old). I will prob go for one of those too when I have the money :)

I would go for that if I were you. Alienwares look really nice cosmetically and perform really well too. So If you son wants to expand into other games. He'll have the setup to do so.
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

Smoke free since Jan 2014 :D If you want any advice on quitting please send me a PM. :)
