I do agree. It isn't lack of sympathy for the OP's situation, or anyone elses. But in the absence of the DEA being available or willing to intervene, I just think it's easier to go with the flow and play the game. After all, nobody said to apply for 10 suitable jobs - just jobs! Personally I think a lot of people without a disability would struggle to find 10 suitable jobs to apply for these days. But There are ways and means of taking on bureacracy, and often a frontal attack is the least likely to succeed.0 -
Thanks everyone for all your help.
To follow up on my OP, we have tried to contact his DEA for help, but he is not answering his phone, which is not unusual. The DEA only comes to our Job Centre one half day a fortnight and there is a six week waiting list for an appointment.
And we have contacted Remploy, who say they do not accept self-referrals, but only take clients through a DEA.
This is the level of support available to young people with disabilities who want to work and are not content to live on ESA for the rest of their lives.
That is odd because I self referred to Remploy as I refused point blank to see the DEA at my jobcentre for reasons known to me and her. I did explain the reasons why I was self referring and got accepted.
Good luck.0 -

Good luck.
It may be their changed circumstances. Having lost a lot of their government funding, they may now only be paid for people who are referred. Unfortunately, they are a charity, and like many others, can only follow the money.0
