Nationwide mortgage offer Delays

  • Nationwide have brought in a brand new mortgage application system to the retail and direct channels, and there have been teething problems. Each and every member of staff that process mortgage applications have had to go on a training course to learn how to use it, new staff have been brought in to deal with the delays but some of them are being over cautious when it comes to checking documents.

Nationwide, until recently, have offered excellent service standards and one day (hopefully soon) normal service will be resumed.

Your offer will come, but yes it will take longer than it should. You can always keep in regular contact via the new business telephone number.
  • Timeline for us do far with nationwide -
We submitted on weds 15th August and our broker told us all paperwork submitted was fine. We paid product fee and fee for survey received a text to say they had received our application
Friday that week broker told us that online it says valuation has been instructed.
Still today (28th August) nothing. Valuer hasn't been out as have spoken to estate agent this morning and there has been no request for access.
It's so annoying as our solicitors are fab and have got all of our searches back and are ready to go but nothing from nationwide.
  • Just spoke to my broker and he says they are working on applications submitted on Tuesday 14th August so there is a backlog!
  • I applied for my Nationwide mortgage at the end of May 2012 and it was finally completed in December 2012. More than six months start to finish and two booking fees paid. I am livid. Another six months onto my mortgage into what might be retirement is woeful...

I have complained to the Nationwide twice, the first complaint wasn't logged and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Looks like I'll be waiting another six months. Is it any wonder the property market is suffering?

    When was it offered?

Completion can be delayed for many reasons not associated with the lender.

Although, they do actually admit in the middle of last year they kept some products on offer too long and ended up getting a massive influx they were ill-equipped to cope with. Those problems appear to be out of the way now.

  • My offer was received on 11 November. The delays were all due to the lender. All paperwork requested was sent without delay.
  • Since our agreement in principal, we have been waiting 8 weeks. As first time buyers, we gave our landlord notice etc, and have to be out of our current accommodation in 17 days. To make matters worse, part of our deposit will be coming from a military scheme, which, once the mortgage is confirmed, will take 10 days to complete. Add to that time for the payment to clear etc, we are looking at being pretty much homeless in just over 2 weeks. We also have a child. Stress does not even start to cover it! Our financial advisor has been in touch with nationwides area manager to explain and has now been told three times that the offer will be sent the same day. Still nothing. After being told the whole process would take 4-6 weeks, we allowed for 10 to be sure we had plenty time. Between lost paperwork and valuations going out of date, we are at our wits ends!

    Hello!

I applied for a FTB mortgage through Nationwide's Save to Buy scheme three weeks ago, i received my written mortgage offer today.

I rang the contact centre yesterday to chase up the written mortgage offer as i was told it had been sent out early last Thursday. Not only did the send out a duplicate, but they also emailed me a copy of the offer straight away, personally i've had great service from them!
  • Hi
I'm a first time buyer using the 'right to buy' scheme to buy my council property, with the discount and my hard earned savings and gift from parent, despite Nationwide being quids in if I failed to make the repayments, I've been hit hard by the new rules, my original application (number 1) was for £96k on 27th March, the new rules then took effect and I was then offered just £74k, this was then reduced again to just £62k! All 3 amounts showed on my credit file, which left me no hope of approaching another mortgage lender, so I was tied to Nationwide and in limbo nearly loosing my 'right to buy' offer.
My application failed on Nationwide's system overall 6 times, I have incurred a shocking mobile phone bill from calling the new business department for updates, and trying to get an appointment with the one and only branch mortgage advisor (who is the only person able to make alterations to my application) was either on training, holiday, or covering another branch, it's been painful to say the least.
It's now October, nearly 7 months later, attempt number 7 and I've been assured my offer is in the post! Mean while my rent is twice the amount of what the mortgage repayments would be.
I have made a complaint and currently waiting Nationwide's response.
In the mean time I'm keeping my fingers crossed I will own my own home by the end of October!
  • My Nationwide online mortgage application couldn't be submitted for nearly a month due to a 'system error'. By the time somebody agreed to escalate it to tech support the decision in principle ran out! Their attitude was 'oh well, you'll just need to reapply'. Also received an email from someone introducing themselves as the person who would be handling my application but when I contacted them they demanded to know how I'd got their number and why was I phoning them. The 'updates' they send you are also well out of date. Waiting on an offer on Monday but not holding out much hope for a positive decision. Would not use them again as I get the general impression they can't be bothered.
