Import tax/vat help?

Hi! I am thinking about ordering a certain pair of boots from eBay, but I am unsure about the import prices (I have no knowledge about this kind of thing, forgive me if I sound blunt at all!), as I remember a while back when my brother ordered some boots he had to pay something around 50% of the overall price at customs. Can anybody tell me what kind of prices I would be looking at here? Here is all the information which may be of help -
-They are being delivered from Grand Rapids, MI, USA to Southport, England
-The price of the boots is £65.93 and the postage is £39.94
...that's all I can think of! Thanks for reading, and all help is appreciated.

Edit: Sorry if this is in the wrong forum or anything, it's the most suitable I could find;)

Roughly 20% VAT of price including postage plus courier handling fee (around 10 or 15 pounds)

VAT is going to be charged on the item price and the postage so that will be about 21 pounds. There will also be the clearance fee and possibly and possibly some duty. The total is going to be around 140 pounds.

With boots I would be worried about what you do if they don't fit or there is some other problem with them. Returning them would be expensive.

Are they much cheaper than buying from a UK supplier?
