Claiming Income Support with 2nd Property

Guys so sorry, its a private matter not prepared to discuss online, I had a simple question regarding a 2nd property that's all, I didn't want to get into the thick of things or appear smart as some of you want too, have always found this as a useful resource but in my current circumstances bearing in mind my original post - my husband has just left me and 2 small kids with no income etc, I've spent the last 3 days completing forms for various benefits etc Im really struggling, thanks for your comments.
If you want state intervention in your life (ie IS) then that intervention comes with questions about your financial arrangements, income and investments.
If you think the board bunch are bad, wait until you have to answer questions from DWP over why you have an asset, a potential income and choose not to utilise it.
D70How about no longer being masochistic?
How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?0 -
Thanks, I don't doubt that, I just thought someone on here could just help me out before that bit came. Thanks for all your help and advice. X0

There is nothing at all to stop you claiming JSA, just because you have a young child dont mean you MUST claim IS though the same stumbeling block would occur.0

You have your answer (and I have to admit your head must be all over the place at the moment and wish you well), but as the owner of a second home any equity is counted and therefore will reduce any claim.0

Fine for online but not so fine as far as the benefits people are concerned.its a private matter not prepared to discuss online,
I have a feeling that everything is their business and that "owing someone a favour" won't cut much ice.
You must be in a turmoil at the moment but somehow you have to get a grip and look at your financial situation as dispassionately as possible - you might try the CAB for advice and assistance.0 -
Even if you manage to get IS, are you really going to be in a position to pay the mortgage on the second home for your brother to live in or does he cover the costs? (you say you don't charge rent but he may be covering the costs)0

Why would you expect the state to subsidise your brother?0
