Account in Credit - Advice Required

Hi,
I recently changed the tariff on my electricity bill, I have been with the same company for about 8 years now.
My account was in credit to the tune of £300 when they asked me for my meter readings, and as a result changed my monthly payments to £21.
Less than three months later, I have had another bill and they advise me that I am now in credit to the tune of £2,000+ and they are changing my monthly debit to £5.
Their are workings in my bill that show all readings/bills cancelled back to 2004 and then new bills charged at different prices to those originally billed to me.
I have contacted them and asked them for an up to date bill and given them the actual meter readings again.
If my new bill comes, and this credit is still in there? Is it mine? Can I close my account and ask for them to send me the amount I am in credit? The numbers stack up, it just seems unusual to have bills recredited to that far back?
Thoughts?

Quite why they would be credited you so much & after all this time I can't work out from your post but if your account is in credit you can ask for it to be refunded yes.
You can also switch supplier if you wish to do so - only debt not credit gets in the way of that, though I'd probably get thye money back first personally
Do you know & understand why they would be crediting you?0 -
Have you had an economy 7 meter, the monthly direct debit also seems very low. you must have been paying a lot more to rack up a credit of £2000.0

A revised Bill going back 8 years ? !
Something has gone very wrong right from the start of your account, or perhaps worse, your supplier has lost track of your records.
Don't become fixed like a rabbit caught in the headlights of a BIG credit - WRITE to your supplier, heading the letter Complaint, demanding an explanation in terms you can understand for the huge historical adjustment - It may be that you are entitled to reclaim every penny you have paid to your supplier, except that for power used in the last 12 months, and by the way, which supplier is it ?0 -
Are all the readings the same and bill you up to date?
How has it reached such a large value? If the price peer unit very low? Have they duplicated payments?
Its very likely going to be a mistake...and quite a big one! You need to get more info as its not really clear.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
