Allotments - what do I need to know?

If you see the allotment as a hobby you will be OK.

Thinking you can grow all your own food is not going to happen.

If you have a huge field maybe, But not the average sized plot. Its just not big enough.

We have 2 and altough we have had good crops of things like onions, They are mostly gone already. Surprising how many you eat.

Fruit is easy to grow though, And you can produce a fair bit, Raspberries, Blackberries and black currants. Dont take up hige amounts of room yet offer decent crops once established.

You have to keep on top of it though. We didnt go down for a while at the beginning of the year. You think its freezing nothing is growing.
But the weeds dont seem to stop. Even if nothing else is.

When we took out small plot the guy next to us was fully on top of his, The odd weed here and there. With the rest totally clear.
He put potatoes in early this year. Now its a mix of potatoes and weeds approx 3ft tall.

You have to keep on top of it. Even though crops are poor this year, Yoiu cant just stop. He will be getting a letter soon saying he needs to sort his plot out.

But with no sun little seems to be growing properly. Except the damn weeds.
