Thanks DD I can fully understand why you are not looking to loose weight at the same time as doing your quest. Your post really made me laugh as I could picture it. I am 6ft 2 or 185cm which is not tall for a Dane but over here I seem to be a lot taller than everyone else. Right now I am supose to be working and calling my big boss but I keep making excuses and cups of tea so guess I should get off MSE.

god eftermiddag, høj pige. jeg arbejde i Norge.

Jeg elske Danmark though, mine bedst plads is Nyhavn i København

Phew. Knackered after working all that out! (hope it makes sense)

You're 1 inch taller than me, but I'll just wear heels at the group meetings so we'll be fine!!

I've been wondering if 3 years is going to be tough but there's no point in doing challenegs if they're going to be easy so... can I join?

At the moment my mortgage is £66500 we’re supposed to have 22.5 years remaining but that dropped to 16.5 when we started overpaying by the maximum allowed each month. As well as overpaying as much as possible we have saved 16k since buying the house and my absolutely wonderful parents have recently said that if we pay 15k of our own money off the mortgage they’ll give us 10k in august to pay off as well. This means that after keeping 3k aside to pay off our (currently 0%) overdrafts our mortgage should be down to less than 42k by august this year.

We hope to be mortgage free by September/October 2010 by my latest calculations so that’s not too much more than 3 years and you might help me pay it off earlier. I think me and my DH must be the only people to always have more money than we should by our calculations – I don’t know how we live on such a small amount, unless someone keeps putting money in my bank account! But this definitely helps in getting us some extra money to put in our savings account for august.

Only problem is we don’t have jobs (we're both students) so I don’t know how easy all this will be. We want to pay off our mortgage so that when we have kids we can easily afford for one of us not to work for as long as we want to stay at home. But I can see us starting a family before the three years is up (if DH gets his way - my sister is having her first and he's getting broody!) so there’s lots of ifs and buts about my current plan.

Sorry for going on, I hope everyone else makes it in 3 years

oh, I dunno about letting you join, we'd have to change the name of the club again... hmnn, "THE FOUR MORTGAGE-ATEERS", sound good actually. OK, you're in! :)

erm, you're not over 6'1" tall are you?

Looks like you're going to meet the three year target too. I hope I'm not going to be the "weakest link" here!!

I'm 5'9" and feeling very short all of a sudden!

The clincher for us is how long it takes us to get jobs after we finish uni (which in turn is dependent on when we actually get around to finishing - current estimates are december for DH and march for me). In my plans we have until next august to both get jobs and start our massive overpayments but if we get jobs before them we could be done in even less time.

I like you already - less than 6'1" tall AND job hunting, just like me (the job hunting bit, not the height bit).

First things, first. You'll have to change your signature mortgage pay off date to: 23.03.2010, only 7 months earlier than your existing one.

I remember you from Sloppy Saver's "Don't Pay Off Your Mortgage" thread -your username is quite memorable - you seemed to come out on top from your exchanges with him so you can the "enforcer" of the group. If anyone looks to be sliding, you can be all over them like a rash (figuratively speaking!)

Welcome Cupid-stunt seems like the group is growing. Good luck with getting a job what field are you in?

I am pleased I am still the tallest then and just to let you know DD I do not wear high heels ever. I liked you Danish - not quite right but nearly. Nyhavn is fab in Summer although the beers are about £6 a pint not very MSE.

So DD you work in Norway - that explains the Oilrigs. Norway is actually more pricey than Denmark but great that they are paying you so well.

As you can see I am still not working but on MSE however I have now got a meeting with my boss sorted, had lunch, booked my execise class for tonight - so no more excuses.

Norway is outrageous! I bought 1 glass of beer (not even a pint!) & 1 glass of diet coke - £8.50, 1 Pizza & 1 glass of Pepsi Max - £25.00, Taxi back to hotel - £26.00 (just missed bus and next one was an hour to wait).

I was in town for 2 hours and spent almost £60!

I have visited Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland and out of all of them I'd say Norway was the most disgraceful and Denmark the cheapest. It was a bit expensive in Christiania, mind you ;)

p.s. Just thought of an alternative name for the group (depending on how tall TYAE is) "The taller than Average Mortgage Payeroffer's club" or "Giants against Mortgage Debt club " or finally "We look down on mortgage debt club"?

No, you're right. Lets stick with what we had before :(

Thanks for the welcome, I've changed my sig. DD, I've never thought of myself as forceful, and I'm probably the youngest here but I'll try my best to keep you all in line.

Tallgirl, I'm in the final year (apparently!) of a PhD in neuroscience so I'll probably be working in scientific research after finishing (and the pay is rubbish)

Hi cupid, I've just looked at your changed signature and it's all WRONG!! It's "Mortgage free in three (yrs)" not "Pay off your mortgage in 3 years", far more catchy and it rhymes (or uses two words with the same sound, not sure if that's a rhyme or something else).

A PhD in neuroscience, that sounds impressive! Once you complete your thesis and pass the course, will we have to call you Dr cupid_stunt?
