Car insurance policy void now it's not!

I recieved a two month driving suspension on 12th June, I rang my insurance company, first central and they informed me policy was void, due to the conviction so I rushed out and took out another policy with admiral for £1340 for my husband as he was originally insured under my name.
First central have since taken two more monthly installments from my account and when I rang them today they said they made a mistake and the policy isn't void and that I can stay with them. I would prefer to stay with them because it means I will get my one year no claims bonus in Nov, but there mistake has costed me £150.
What can I do about it advise greatly appreciated
I should also add I haven't cancelled either policy as don't know my best option

Get 1stcentral to confirm the onoing cover and that they have made a mistake. Then cancel the other you have arranged and get confirmation of the cost of cancellation. Put in written complaint to 1stcentral and ask them to refund you for the uncessary extra policy you arranged as a result of their mistake. If they refuse, take it to the FOS. ( You have to allow 1stcentral 8 weeks to resolve or for them to issue a final response earlier, before you can involve the FOS).The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Ideally you should be able to get a refund from first central of the costs their mistake has incurred.
They aren't known for their good service (do a search here and on the net on them), and you'll see this may be a long battle!
You will also find extra costs in cancelling the new policy you took out, so cancel the admiral policy (of that is your decision) and get the full costs before you commence your battle!0
