Looking For Work When Working On The Work Programme

I have been on the work programme for a few months now and i am going to do 3 days work a week shortly with a contractor as part of the work programme this will leave me with only 2 days a week to look for work

My question is when i fill out my job search log when i sign on i can only include jobs that i applied for on the 2 days that i was not working on the programme will that be ok with the jobcentre people that are dealing with my JSA

Also do you have to put down Ref numbers and contact number of jobs that you applied for on your jobseasrch record

There are 7 days in a week, so that leaves you with 4 days to look.

There is not much point in looking for work on saturday or sunday

Do you actually receive benefit for a Sunday?

Assuming that you do, then the best that the Jobcentre can ask of you is that you can only carry out 4/7ths of the weekly requirement as laid down in the agreement.

It wouldn't be fair or reasonable to ask anyone to carry out 7 days of looking for a job over a 4 day period. It's not the fault of the poster that they have to work the 3 days a week - they can't expect everything!

The internet is open 7 days a week, same as the timescale your benefit money is paid for.

And i should have added it is going to be waste of time calling a agency if they close at around six o clock or calling at a building site if they are already closed for the day

Looking for work can include updating and posting your CV as well as searching on the internet. All of these can be done at the weekend.

There is only so much you can do with updating your CV on the internet.

I do wonder how many job offers come about from these internet sites. I've never heard of anybody being contacted with the prospect of the 'ideal job that has just hit the market.'

To me they are a complete waste of time and energy.

In the space of two weeks I have heard of three people find jobs that they weren't looking for. Two came by way of word of mouth and the third was out of the blue when a young mum was in school one morning when the school secretary who was taking the dinner money off her for her little one, happened to mention that there was a term time job of 16 hours a week, helping out with school lunches and was she interested or did she know anybody that would be.

Personally, this saga of doing a certain number of things every week is a joke. All someone has to do is make sure all of their friends know that they are looking for work, that they can start straight away, and will consider any type of job even those that pay NMW. It's called 'networking'.

During the past three years since I retired, I have had more job offers than you can count on two hands. I turned all of them down as I don't want to work - I've done my 44 years!!

I know that it isn't the norm, but my son in law, a fully qualifed solicitor received a telephone call from a friend who was working in London asking if he would like to come up to the city for lunch and meet his senior partner. He did and 4 hours later he was offered a position and salary to be negotiated.
He wasn't even thinking of changing jobs or even looking for one.

If these schemes that are run by the DWP were carefully inspected, they would find that the only winners would be the people that run them.

I cannot understand the need for such schemes, it is in all of us to make sure that 'putting the word' out is more profitable in finding a job, than is ticking a box that says - 'checked internet' 'amended my CV' 'had a look in the local weekly paper'.

If you're on the Work Programme then the contractor should realise you're looking for work and you should have lunchbreaks etc when you can phone people about job opportunities.

Timewise it should only take a minute to phone an employer and ask if you can email them your CV or ask for an application form.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
