Transferring Credit from a Credit Card

Hi everyone,
I've just paid off my old Egg card (now with Barclays), however I forgot about the minimum payment which had already been taken by direct debit, so now I've got a £27 positive balance on the card.
However, Barclays won't allow any balance transfers on my account, nor let me transfer a balance to a current account. At least, that's what it says on their online banking services.
Obviously I'll ring them later, but I'm just interested in knowing whether they're obliged to give you that money back, or simply take it off any purchases you make with the card?

Yes they are obliged to give it back.
BUT
a) Transferring a balance means transferring a negative balance.
b) Transferring your credit balance is entirely differentt.
You have asked b), they have inferred a) as "balance transfer" has a specific meaning (a).
Either spend it on petrol/groceries.
Or send them a secure message asking them to transfer your credit balance giving them your sort code and account number but DON'T ask for a balance transfer as that is a tranfer of a debit balance not a credit balance.0 -
Ah yes, I understand. What I would normally do is ring them and say "I have this credit on my card, how do I go about getting that into my bank account?". I generally act dumb when calling those sort of places, asking all the obvious questions etc.
Thanks for your help.
