Question about Vista??

Hi,

I live in an area that is not covered by Broadband.

Prior to getting a new notebook with Vista home basic o/s, will it work here?

I notice they are fitted with a 56k modems but will Vista work with a dial up phone connection?

Probably a silly question as suspect it won't but thought I'd ask advice.

Thanks,

p.s. I'm NOT prepared to move house!!

I presume Vista should still work with dial up as it's still pretty essential for a lot of people (like yourself without broadband, backup if BB fails, use pc as fax).

I'd be very surprised if it didn't work.

    This suggests it should work

If the modem is in a new computer there should be drivers for it. It would be a bit silly for manufacturers to sell PCs with modems in that couldn't be used.

just purchased a vista laptop this week and use dial up...at first it seemed a little slow, so i removed mcafee security and put something else on and now its pretty nippy for dial up

if it has a wifi connection on it you can make any bigger downloads where a wifi signal is avail like a airport or whatever ( my niebour has left thiers unsecured so i could rob that if i chose to)

Rob is an appropriate term as it's illegal and a case has been successfully prosecuted.

    Thanks for the info.

I am presently using McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 on my desktop and I notice that it fairley slows that down too.

    I have TWO questions though.

    1. Could I use my McAfee 2007 software disc that I put on my desktop to work on my new laptop as well or do I have to buy another fresh disc?

    2. What do you use instead of McAfee that does not slow your laptop down as much?

    Thanks again for your advice.

What do you mean by really work? I have it as my Anti Virus software and I used to have McAfee Enterprise but AVG is far better.

dog1 , im no expert but i asked around first

if you have the code number for your mcafee disc and its in date you should be able to use it
