Hello everyone, thanks for your advice below. I got the repair done and they replaced the front but the part is badgeless! And they tried to charge me £93.00 when the quote was £87.90!

This is on top of quoting me for a repair that missed the front piece, me having to go back and get the front repaired separately, the front being badgeless, now they say badges are extra!

AM I right to be upset about this??

Hiya

I've got a scooter and I did some damage and took it to the garage to be fixed.

When I collected, it transpired they had missed some damage and not quoted for it. I arranged for them to fix this and they have ordered the part - at the time I was upset as i thoght the price had included everything.

Now, I'm not too bothered and don't fancy paying an extra £100 to fix the bit they missed, but if I cancel can they charge me for ordering the part?

If you haven't agreed to them ordering it, no theres not much they can do about it than placing it in stock (if its a common part) or returning to supplier and hoping their returns policy is OK.
Don't expect to get a warm welcome from them though if you need them in the future.
  • I think it would depend on whether they are out of pocket.

If the part is a special order, and they can't return it, or returning it involves a "restocking charge", then they may have a claim for any losses.

If it's returnable for a full refund (or in exchange for another part - my local motor factor will do this), or it's a common part that could be used on another vehicle within a reasonable time period, then they aren't out of pocket, so no losses.

A court would expect them to make a reasonable, effort to mitigate any losses, so they would have to show they made reasonable efforts to use, return, exchange, etc.

If they just slung it in the skip, then tried to claim the full cost from you, that wouldn't be a reasonable effort to mitigate their losses.

Yes you arranged for them to fix it in your own words ,they ordered the part at their expense

most garages charge for ordering parts you request

    You missed a bit there.

But OP has since asked dealer to organise repair and part ordered.

I would have thought you wanted the complete repair? I know it transpires that there is additional work but "spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar is a phrase that springs to mind????
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Don't think there's any need to be upset really.

looks like some kind of yamaha scooter?

In which case the badges are a separate part number, but only
cost a couple of quid, give the model / year / vin prefix and im
sure someone can point you in the right direction.

Regards the quote, you should pay what you were quoted, they
quote, you accept and they carry out the work, there is nothing that
can add to the cost really, im guessing it was a single part, just the
cowling? or was it for the indicator assays as well? in which case
they would have known the price at the time they gave you the quote..
