dads comp got a backweb infection off limewire, did all the usual stuff, safe mode etc, scans, hijack this, removed the bad stuff (all the time the comp kept crashing and restarting) then it crashed and now when its turned on, the mouse lights up, keyboard lights up, but just a black screen-i cant even get into safe mode, nothing i press does anything cos it doesnt even get to the stage where it starts to boot! what the hell do i do?!?!?!?

If you have the Windows boot Disk boot off it and try to do a repair. It might work. Basically sounds like the operating system files are knackered. Alternatively you could try some bootable virus scanning CD and see if it will fix it.

Is there anything on the computer which you need? If not then just do a reinstall of the computer..its going to be far easier and more stable to do this in the long run.

Try pressing del as it starts up (assuming your mothernoard setup is entered by pressing del of course)

exceedingly complicated, everything was corrupt but managed to salvage it without reformatting so no files lost :)
