Tax Credits - £200ish end of June to....

£11.69 end of July - I've been receiving tax credits since last October...

How come it has changed so sharply?
I have filled in and returned the re-claim form - nothing has changed in my circumstances?
Why cant the Gov just not tax people on low wages and save money on the paperwork?
Amazon made £7b profit? Surely tax some of that or introduce a new law whereby Luxembourg companies have to pay even a small tax.

And no, I havent called the TC hotline - need to put aside a few hours as would be waiting on the 0845 number a long time

Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.
  • it will have changed becasue your income will be different to when you first applied.based on the estimate you provided and your actual end of year figure. Add that to the fact the budget has been changed for this year and that will be the reason your claim has been altered. There is hardly any waiting time at the moment on the line so might be worth calling to speak to someone. Currently waiting for around 30 seconds before an answer which is fantastic at this time of year.

What about people who don't pay tax or don't work and receive Tax Credits?
What have Amazon got to do with your Tax Credits?

Err, the Government don't tax people on low wages .. well, anything under £7,475 a year anyway. And Luxembourg companies DO pay tax... in Luxembourg. There was enough of an outcry when the Isle of Man companies had tax slapped on their products and the prices shot up. You can't have it all ways!

Ah Yes ithnk my wages have gone up by around £1 ph since my original claim - but my hours tend to be a bit less so it's quite similar.

So I'm on now around £14000-15k /250-280 per week?

And yes the amazon point was irrelevant!
Good to know you can get through quicker

your original claim was for part of a year ( from october to april)
now they are basing it on a whole year ( april to april)
    its a very complicated system.

i dont really want to be political, but gordon brown introduced tax credits, and yes possibly he did so to give everyone a certain standard of living.

but what it sis was encourage employers to pay low wages and offer limited working hours, because they knew the state would pick up the shortfall.
it wouls have always been unsustainable... but the tory government have put the boot in, and the changes are too quick and too severe.

but thats what happens for things being too easy for too long ....
