I sometimes find you need the cook the sauce a little longer though than you would usually for a non-lentil one, otherwise the lentils stay a little firmworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

Yes I did find that - the lentils are quite hard. I would of prefered them a bit softer. Have frozen up dinners for my LO instead - she will eat anything.:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0

Never used them before, but I got some red lentils to add to a chicken soup I was making. The instructions said to boil for 10 minutes then simmer for 20, so I boiled them then added to the soup and simmered for about half an hour.
Came to eat it and there's not an lentil to be seen. Have I boiled them into the water or what? and should I be a bit gentler next time? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

That's what red lentils do. Except when you're waiting for it to happen. if you watch and wait they stay crunchy!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

That's alright then. I was searching the kitchen at one point, wondering if I'd just imagined putting them in and they were still sitting in a pan somewhere! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

The other types of lentils -big greeny ones and the little blue-grey ones stay whole because they have not been hulled;) Red ones dissolve to mush.0

Can you make soup out of green lentils, just the same as the red ones ?0
-
Yes and no. Yes you can make soup with them but the green lentils tend not to break down as well as the red ones so they don't thicken it up as effectively. If you want thickening then you have to add rice or potatoes. Maybe add them to something like minestrone?Well behaved women rarely make history.0
