am in a terraced property and my chimney is leaking either side up in my loft.
so asked neighbour who private rents from a property services company who says his is dry.
spoken to a roofer who thinks might be the roughcast but says no point in just doing two sides of the chimney but im wondering if the property services who own next door are responsible to pay half of will they just fob me off.
where do i stand legally??

First its inevitable that they will fob you off irespective of whether they have a joint (excuse the pun) liability or not,
Second if its leaking your side and not their side then I should say that the answer is pretty obvious unless the repair involves both sides of the chimney (like reflashing it all round or rerendering (or whatever it is) the whole stack
Third "thinks" just simply isn't good enough from your roofer. You need to know whats to be done and how its to be done and at what cost before you even think about approaching the other lot.
Fourth they will still quibble, vacilate and fob you off
Fifth I'm not sure you have any legal grounds whatsoever to try and force them to pay any contribution to a repair. Morally is a different issue.
