Hotpoint washing machine - gushing out soap drawer!

Yikes, our washing machine is gushing water out of the soap drawer, we have tipped it, and cleaned out the filter and pipe etc underneath, and cleaned the soap drawer but its still gushing when we start it up.
I cant find free online help - how to take it apart trouble shoot etc, I know whats caused it, i washed a chenile blanket which disintegrated ( what a bargain that turned out to be , its now bald as a coot and have to give it to charity scraps )
Husbands sitting here ready and willing but we dont know which bit to undo/clean/remove. we're seriously strapped for cash this month, cant afford a technician. The model is a fwe12 front load machine about 5 years old.
Any suggestions gratefully received !
