So at the moment I am non the wiser on where the money has come from but it has caused me some concern. I have called the bank as i was worried that someone had access to my account (not sure why they'd make a deposit tho lol!)

I know I'm reaching but has this happened to anyone before?

This happened to me. I would suggest you write to the bank (keeping a copy so you have an audit trail(*)) saying that this unexpected deposit has occurred and could they identify the origin, so that you can check if it is correct. They should then write back giving you some details of the originator, to which you should respond appropriately. In my case this was a "never heard of them"; after which the bank removed the money.

(*) as i understand it. if you keep the money then it is legally theft, so you are here setting up a defence to that charge should things go wierd: "I told them it was a mistake and it wasn't mine"

You got any link for the supporting law / regulation?
    The statute of limitations.
Sorry can't remember the exact year - perhaps you can google it.
By the way can you point to any law that suggests your incorrect answer is right?
