Daughter had an accident - what to do about car storage?

Yesterday, my daughter was involved in a collision - an overtaking motorcycle on the wrong side of the road hit her Fiesta head-on. Fortunately she is ok, and the motorcylist, though badly injured, will survive. Her car is undriveable.

Obvously, the police attended; and arranged for her car to be recovered by a local recovery company. I've informed her insurers (Diamond), and said I'm not making a claim at this stage as the motorcyclist was fully liable (by his own admission, by the witnesses to the accident and the attending police). Diamond have the motorcylist's insurance details and are chasing liability.

Diamond have contacted me today and said that after tomorrow, I will be liable for the storage costs of £20 per day for her car. I don't have anywhere myself to store a damaged undriveable car.

What's the best course of action now:
  • Do I let the recoverers store the car and then claim the storage costs from the motorcyclist's insurance?
  • Do I try and find somehwere cheaper to store the car?
  • Or something else?
Apologies if this is a silly question - I haven't been in this situation before. I don't really want to have to go down the "claims management" route - as I don't think that's good for everyone in the long run, but equally I don't want to have to pay out money up front and then have to try and claim it back.

Thanks very much in advance.

Best Regards,

ZG

Contact the recovery garage and pay the recovery cost and outstanding storage to date. Get a receipt. This will stop any additional costs.

Claim this back of the third party and collect the vehicle when its released.

If you don't want to claim off your own policy or use a claim handler to sort this for you, then you are faced with paying for everything yourself and pursuing the third party insurer to reimburse you.

Contact the third party insurers and see if they have an innocent third party claims department, and if so see if they will sort this out directly with you.
