How long before I get a courtesy car?

I was involved in an accident where the 3rd party kindly drove off on false plates etc, reported to police and insurance same day. I had to e-mail my insurance company photo’s of the car and damage. A week and a half later im still wait for a loan car, I was told it would take 48 hours to authorise my claim, that was a week ago, I keep chase the insurance daily but they say its with the claims inspector and I cant speak to them and they cant put me threw to them to see what the delay is, they just keep saying all we can do is put a chase on the job sheet. ! Im still drive around in my car despite some serious damage and rear bumper hanging off, as I have no choice. Is there any time scales for this type of thing ? I have read my policy and can see no mention of timescales. 7 Years ago when I was last in an accident when someone hit me, I reported it on Sunday and they collected the car the next day and gave me a loan car, this was a different insurance company though !

Would really need to know your policy and what options you have.

If it is a traditional courtesy car then it is given to you by the garage themselves and so you only get it when they take the car in for the repairs and it is subject to availability - of cause you can delay the repairs until the car is available.

Some insurers offer things like "guaranteed courtesy car" or other such named options. These are hire cars and so there is more flexibility, you get it if your car is a total loss etc but typically they have a relatively low maximum number of days you can have it for so generally you dont want to claim it until the car goes in unless you car is not roadworthy in which case you probably dont have a choice

If your car is as bad as you make out then you shouldn't be using it on the road, how would you like it if you were following a car down the road and their bumper fell causing you damage?
