Hi,
Do you have the option of signing off if your starting a new business or do you have to gain employment to sign off?
If your business fails in 6 months are you allowed to sign back on and will the old claim still be linked or will it be considered a fresh new application?
Thanks.

Dont know the answer to the second question but the first question you dont need employment to sign of JSA.0

If you wish to sign off, when they ask you why, you can just say "I no longer wish to claim" and you don't have to elaborate any more than that.
Regarding signing back on. I went self-employed for a while but it didn't work out. I was asked if I "resigned" but I said no, there just wasn't the work available to allow me to continue, and from then on I had no problems. If I had answered that I had given up, things might have gotten tricky.
I think it's 26 weeks for a rapid reclaim, ie 6.5 months, after which it's treated as a new claim, but don't quote me on that.0 -
Thanks is the 26 or 6.5 month rule for JSA IB can contributions based JSA be used for 6 months if you qualify?0

You will have to tell them of your self employment if you sign back on because they will want to know how you have supported yourself from the time you signed off, and if you intend to claim tax credits you will need to prove the hours you worked and register with HMRC.
Why have you put such a short time limit of within 6 months of business failure? What self employment are you intending to do? Do you have a business plan etc or do you just intend to half heartedly open a hobbyist type business for tax credits without any research whatsoever?“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
Its not a big business I plan its small PC repair biz Im looking to start but fear I may not get enough customers to make a decent income as advertising costs are huge. I dont think I can live on a couple of hundred pounds a month for 6 months.0
