I'm having problems with picassa at the moment, it wont let me upload or even watch any videos, so I'm looking for an alternative. I'm not after putting anything online, I just like the way it searches your pc and lets you look at and change any pictures in one place.
Any free alternatives?

I can't recall any that handle videos, though (in fact I wasn't aware that Picasa did!).
That wouldn't worry me, as I use VLC media player for anything video based, but then I don't have enough videos to need to organise them in any fancy way...0 -
you could use Live photo gallery, allows you to preview videos too, though bear in mind it is a Microsoft product, it might not play all videos on your machine,0

I use PHOTOS in the excellent Picasa as video wouldn't work properly for me either
For Video I use its sister programme 'GOOGLE DRIVE' formerly Google Docs

You wouldn't use MS Excel to give a presentation or expect MS Word to do complex calculations, so why are you complaining that a PHOTO editing tool won't work for videos?
From the Picasa web site it's clear that you only have the option to upload videos to the picasa site or youtube. You can't do much else with videos.
From the web site (my emphasis):Upload videos to Picasa Web Albums You can upload videos up to 1 GB in size to Picasa Web Albums in several ways:- Picasa: Use the downloadable Picasa software to upload videos.
- Web browsers: Use the Upload button. Video uploading is only available in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
