Buying ....from a first time seller

I am interested in an item for sale on ebay which is quite expensive

I do however have a slight concern ....the seller has been registered since Jan 05 and this is the first item they have put up for sale , they also have not bought anything and therfore have no feedback what-so-ever.... I am in NOW WAY saying they are not genuine but advice needed on how if I bid and won item can I ensure my cheque will not just be cashed and they become NLRU`s and I dont get my goods

I dont have a paypal account ( and dont wish too ) so this method is not an option

Good luck, and don't forget, you can always throw in a request such as.... "I might be in a position to collect, would that be ok?" and you can ask for additional pics.... Doesn't prove much more than they have access to the item, but it'll give you a feel for the seller.

That said.... "quite expensive" items are something I doubt I'd ever buy off EBay from anyone, but thats just me. :)

Personally I would always make sure I had a few positives (+/- 10) before I strated selling on ebay.

But I have bought from brand new sellers before and the advice is:- ask questions and if you are not happy with style/tone/content of reply steer clear. If they are genuine they should fall overbackwards to help...it's their first sale after all and they should be nervous and very willing to help.
