Engagement ring insurance

Hey all. Heading home to Australia soon with my fiance, but as we are travelling via a few countries over the way, we're looking at getting some insurance that will cover us while we're in transit.

After a quick search I'm coming up a bit blank, but I have found one insurer that claims they insure worldwide.

The site is insurance4everyone, but it seems the actual insurance policy is via Caitlin Insurance Group while Berkley Alexander seem to provide the customer serivce. Having a look at the FSA website, they all seemed legit, but I was just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with them.

I'm about to give them a call to find out more about their coverage, but obviously would like an independent review.

Thanks in advance.

Normally your home insurance would cover it under the personal possessions cover unless you have a massively disproportionately expensive ring compared to the other sorts of items you own. I know when I priced separate jewellery insurance it was only £10 less than my complete home contents insurance.

Wonderful Web Ltd, who is the Appointed Representative of Berkley Alexander is managed by the son of the MD of Berkley Alexander, with him and the GM both on the board of the company. So it is all in the family and unlikely to be an appointed representative that goes rogue

BA are part of a group of companies owned and ran by the same guys that owns Towergate. Some would argue that some of their practices are a touch on the underhanded side (more internally and to the insurers they deal with than the consumers that buy their policies) but they are a legitimate and fairly reputable company.

I use http://www.thmarch.co.uk/index.xalter. Never had to claim but cover is good, no excess and reasonable price.

    Thanks for the responses :)

I ended up going with insurance4everyone as we will actually be travelling for a few months and they had no limit for overseas cover (TH March quotes 30 days). But once again, thanks for the suggestion, at least it gave me another option to look at.

Here's hoping we don't need to claim, though.
