My business made a loss, what can I claim...

Ok some really strange questions from me...
Now I understand the rules relating to a self employment loss and tax credits, so I simply offset my losses against any income from the joint claim and hey we have X income to declare.
But by doing this it turns out our income for the year (last financial) was actually under £15K and we should have got tax credits and working tax credits.
But if I were to earn this much as a slary I'd get Council Tax Benefit and some HB, maybe some other benefits too.
So my question is should I have made a claim for these, could I have, do my losses get ignored for these purposes???
If not, what can I do now about last year?

You won't be able to claim back from last year for housing and council tax benefit. They go on your income at present. Tax credits is the only benefit that goes on last years income0
