Post Office Car Insurance

Hi Guys,
We moved house a week ago and called the Post Office to amend the address on our insurance documents.
They want to charge us an extra £214 on top of what we have already paid £650 just for moving address they said that it is due to the crime rate in the area.
Has anyone else experienced this issue if so did you pay the cost or go elsewhere? I am 28 and only insure a 1.4 Tjet punto.
Thanks

Easy enough to do, get quotes from other insurers and see how much itll cost for a new policy elsewhere.
If its only a few pounds difference then it probably isnt worth switching due to the inevitable cancellation fee from the PO you will have to pay. Plus if you have less than maxmium NCD then the part year NCD will also be lost.
Personally, when I knew I was going to be moving I checked with the insurers the price at the current and new address as well as their admin fee so had a fair idea of the total price before I bought (though inevitably the second price was going to be subject to change as it was a few months off)0 -
Think of the motorist who has moved or is about to move from the area you have just moved into back to the area you have just come from and they get a REFUND of circa £214 - now that would be interesting0
-
I know this must sound like a stupid question but do I have to amend my address?? Like they would give you £214 back.0
-
No now. They will probably charge you another admin fee £50? You may get a small discount.
Buyt when your car gets damaged outside the new address they will refuse your claim and cancel the rest of your policy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Get a dummy quote, false name, generic car, but use your driving history and the two postcodes. If the difference is in line with the charges, (including a fee of up to £50 admin) fair enough you'll have to pay or move. If not, ring them, complain they are overcharging as you are a captive customer, and threaten to complain to the FOS that they are not treating the customer fairly.0

Just did a comparison quote and there is about £10 difference between the 2 address feel annoyed that they think £200 is acceptable.
Who do I complain to and what do I do as I do not want to hand over the money.
What a joke!!!0 -
Is this £10 difference with the Post Office?
If so try and speak to a CS manager about it, or failing that send in a written complaint (their complaints procedure will be set out in the policy documents)
(Expect to pay an admin charge on top of any premium increase, though the increase should only be pro rata for the remainder of your policy year)0 -
I have just done a comparison against the 2 addresses on the post office even though the quoted price is higher than what we have paid there is absolutely no difference in price.0
-
You can only use your "evidence" of what post office would charge you for your new address were you to buy a new policy off them (not any others you have found from other companies).
If there is a significant difference, then complain the increase is unfair, and that they shouldn't treat you like this just because you are already a customer. (Though do bear in mind the admin fee on top of any premium difference)0 -

Prices change throughout the year too.
Both addresses may have been £400 back when you bought it, but may both now be £600.0
