Input needed for money education course for kids

debtproof
Hi there
I work for a charity that has been commissioned to produce a parenting course that will help mums and dads teach their kids about money management, in a bid to try and stem the tide of young people getting horribly into debt.
It'll combine info and ideas about how to talk/teach your children about personal finances in the widest sense, plus a chance to develop your own communication and parenting skills further eg how to communicate with a teen that grunts! setting boundaries, getting to grips with youth culture
Rather that just me coming up with all these ideas of what I think parents want to know themselves and what they think they're children need to know about money, staying out debt, credit etc - I'd really appreciate hearing from any mum, dad - or other carer - to hear what your concerns are and what you think should go into the course. The plan is that is would run over six weeks, based in community centres and the like, but we would also like to produce additional support material. So any ideas of how you like to receive information would also be welcome. eg websites, chat rooms, books, film clips and what would help you teach your kids about money.
Thank you very much in anticipation of your responses.

Fantastic idea. I have talking to my son (11) about credit cards and loans recently. I don't think he fully understands but I am making a start. I warn him about credit cards and shop cards as I was silly with them when I was younger. Good luck and hope it is a success.Life is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what yer gonna get0

I think people really need to understand to live within their means.
Too many people think that because they have a few grand on their credit card, that money belongs to "them".
My DS has just turned 9 and he understands that debt is a bad thing. I have shown him my household budget and he is genuinely interested in how much it costs to run a home.0
