    No problemo ;)

Not sure if this is the right thread to post in but, my Daughter is about to start college (in sept) and we are on CTC at the moment. Will we still be able to claim this once she starts college? (We have no other children living with us) The CTC will be payed till 31/08/07 according to our present award.

    Many thanks

My sister who has just left college used to get money from EMA each week for going to college, she was a full time student. Our parents would still get child benefit and child tax credits for her too. You have to let them know that your child is still in full time education. Contact your local DWP they will tell you what forms you need and how to claim.

  • Hi Kurjam you will be entitled to child benefit and ctc if your son stays on in school the payments stop when your son will be 18. Mine has just stopped my son was 18 July 30th. Good luck with your son's studies.

Forgot to say you can apply for Ema which is 30 pounds per week for your son. Check out the website. http://ema.direct.gov.uk/ema.html

Here are a couple of links for you. Remember that any loan you have as a student does not need to be paid back until after your course and not before you are earning at least £15000 per annum.
Student Finance - student maintenance loans
How much will university cost? Tuition fees and other expenses : Directgov - Education and learning

Many Universaties offer bursaries and the fees for tuition are not paid back by you if your income falls below a certain level. You should be able to find out on a calculator on the second site (I believe) roughly how much you'd be entitled to. Most students get additional work to add to their loans etc, which might be more difficult for someone with a child.Good Luck:T

That's actually not true any more, it can be paid up to the age of 20 (if they turn 19 after 6th April 2006) if the child is still in full time further education.

  • I am considering doing an OU degree in October. I don't qualify for any type of help because my household income is too high but does anyone know if I will be classed as a student for council tax purposes? Anything else I may be able to get help with?
