SNAD Issue

I have had my first ever SNAD as a buyer this week....

I bought an item for £100+ and was not happy with the condition, seller has been sarcastic and rude but has finally agreed to refund on return.

My question is, is the seller obliged to pay for Special Delivery return postage? this is because the value exceeds £46 recorded del (which was the service they used to send it out)

I have asked for them to do so but not received a reply now for 3 days.

What action should I take now? Obviously I want my £100+ back asap, and ont want to have to pay £8 out of my own pocket.

Also when it is resolved would others still leave a neg after a refund for this issue bearing in mind the seller has been quite rude and obstructive?

As much as under the Distance selling Regulations a seller should refund return postage. Neither ebay or paypal have the ability to force them to. Oaypal can only refund your original payment. Good sellers will refund return postage on mis described items but poor sellers can and do refuse. All you can do is return it via a tracked method (so that you have evidence of return if you need to prove it to paypal) and if they refuse to refund the postage leave appropriate feedback stating such.

Unfortunately it's not fun being down 8 quid but you will get the vast majority of your payment back so it's worth returning.

It's about time eBay started charging sellers for return postage. The US is introducing pre-paid labels for returns for which the seller is charged a flat fee. Not sure how that might work with items that need extra insurance, but that would certainly act as a way of improving relations if the label was offered at a bit of a discount on normal prices - eBay have the purchasing power of a big business, they already provide labels in some circumstances...so why not?

Unfortunately you have to weigh up the pros and cons, either send back at your own cost to recoup you full initial payment or dont send back and lose your payment.
Though have heard of other people that have got ebay to fund a return so might be worth giving them a ring and explain your situation..

The seller has just responded with the name and address details but just said she will refund on receipt, no mention of postage despite my asking a specific question. I doubt she will be refunding them somehow.

Try contacting CS - I've heard that they sometimes offer postage labels.
