double glazing repair: £280 for hinges?

Hello there guys,
We have just moved to our 1st home (yuppie!) but we have double-glazing poorly installed in our front bay windows.
this means a couple of them don't close properly leaving a 2 inch gap between the window itself and the frame, and this chilly wind we are having comes right through!
Well anyway, we have been quoted £280 and £300 to replace 2 hinges, 2 lock mechanisms and one handle: parts & labour.
As we are new to all this we don't if this is fair. Seems a bit steep though but we have 2 quotes on a similar level.
Shall we go ahead at this price? We are in North London though in case it matters. Thanks to all in advance.

Find out from the previous owner if you can if the windows were fitted by a company or if they were a DIY job.If they were fitted by a double glazing company within the last 10 years they may still be under quarantee."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0

Thanks, but we already tried that.
Guarantees are non-existent for the double glazing, which was done 2 years ago. He refurbished the house then so it might be a diy job, that's why is so doggily done!0 -
seems fair to me, depends what locking systems, we fitted one last week and the lock itsself was £86. We usually charge £20 to change a locking system.

Why not ask for a few quotes, ask friends/family for any reputable companies in the area assuming they life in that area and no it0

In that case, the quote is a fair price to pay.It can be really expensive to have someone elses dodgy workmanship fixed so its actually a really good quote. If the work done was all D.I.Y. and the windows are not done right you had best have a good look round everything else too and really inspect it thoroughly. For your safety I would get the boiler checked out if it was the previous owner who had it fitted,a one off inspection by british gas is about £60-£70(check the current prices).Perhaps also make sure your buildings insurance is extensive enough to cover D.I.Y disasters just incase."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Have a look on the internet for a local supplier who supplies the fittings to the window installers you might be able to pick the parts up at 'trade' price and fit them yourself.
If you can find the supplier take off a hinge and a handle and take them with you so you get the same things.
The supplier will be out there its just finding him.
If you have a small local window company take the bits to them0 -
Thanks all for your helpful replies. We decided to go ahead and get the repairs done, it is a local co and repairs & parts come with guarantee.
There are loads of small bits & bobs of DIY that need to be fixed properly... will def have the boiler checked as we didn't think about that! all the other bits we'll do them in time...tx.0
