Thanks for your opinions. As Soolin advises, I'll wait and see how much postage actually costs before making a decision on feedback/stars. I do think that *some* sellers use the P&P to bump up their profit - it remains to be seen if this seller is one of those.

Busybody - when I said feedback, I actually meant the star rating - apologies for riling you up (ever considered drinking calming herbal tea?!?). That said, most reasonable sellers offer combined postage. Whilst I appreciate I didn't ask for combined postage (for reasons already given) I was surprised it was not offered.

I am not riled, just have to much time on my hands and felt the need to defend the seller. I don't know all the details of what you bought but it came across to me like you were blaming the seller for your mistake when the P&P charges were completley transparent before you bought the item.

In this case my opinion is it would be unreasonable to give less than 3 stars.

Having read my post again, I think you are reading between the lines and seeing criticism where there is none. I laid no blame and indeed did mention that I had not asked for postage to be combined. I then asked for people's opinions. I fail to see where I have blamed the seller for anything.

As advised, I will wait until the DVDs have been delivered, see how much the postage & packaging cost and make a decision on what feedback and star rating I should give.

    Thank you for your opinion.
  • Maybe I am reading between the lines, but you asked for an opinion and I gave you mine - and I fundamentally disagree with you. For my troubles I had my detailed seller rating analysed by a so called "guide" and advice on my selling practices who is seemingly underinformed.

You felt like you are being overcharged for postage when the seller clearly did not even offer it, but implied they should of given you a discount.

Why should they get poor ratings?

You asked for advice and to be blunt you are out of line if you are going to leave less than 3 stars. If you do not want this type of answer, don't ask for opinions.

Sorry if I am offending you - but I feel strongly about this one.

Hi Wanted some advice on a postage and feedback query. I bought 2 DVD from the same seller. I didn't notice it was the same seller until after I had paid. Postage has cost me £4.50 and the seller did not offer to combine or lower the postage. That said, I didn't ask.
Assuming the DVDs aren't hand delivered on a soft cushion, I know I am going to have paid over the odds. So, what feedback would you give/have you given in this instance?

You make the decision when purchasing, if you feel the stated postage (bearing mind it is postage and packaging) is too high look to another seller.

As for combining postage then some do some don't but even those that don't might still post two items in the same package therefore saving them money.

All you can do is check how much over the odds they have charged and mark their feedback accordingly.

When I sold I would charge no more than 50p on top of actual postage rates to cover the package, tape etc. so I deem this as an acceptable amount for a seller to charge me, anything over that and I may mark the rating as not a reasonable amount depending on how much over the top they added.

Some will tell you they are charging petrol to take it to the post office, never quite got my head around that one, they are trying to sell you goods to clear their stock/unwanted goods but then charge everything they can think of to add to the p&p (all because the p&p fees do not pay a % to eBay).

If you really feel you have paid way over the odds you could contact eBay but ultimately you agree to the cost when you bid.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

The point is you did not ask for combined postage and you agreed the price.

The seller as done nothing but but post items that someone agreed to buy. Anything less than decent feedback would be wrong.

There is a reason many sellers don't offer combined postage upfront. Not always cheaper together, different sized items needing a courier when combined, or the higher value needing recorded post etc. I recently lost out, after discovering royal mail charged more to post both items together than seperately.

Obviously that won't be the case here for 2 dvd's - but i still wait for a total request - and then weight the items and charge cost price.

Not sure what you're referring to here, nothing to do with me I suspect.

Possibly. As I have said, I'll wait to see what the postage costs actually are. I do disagree with sellers inflating postage costs in order to make more money - especially when the item sells for a low price. Is this seller guilty of this? I don't know yet. I will have a better idea once the items have been delivered.

Having looked at their listing again it does state that they will combine postage. Whilst I will agree that I did not ask, nor did they offer or honour what they wrote in their listing. £4.50 is a lot for 2 single DVDs.

    You asked for advice

    Yes, I did.

I will leave appropriate feedback and star ratings. Ultimately, it is my decision.

You really aren't offending me. I think you've made your point very eloquently but as I say, I will make the final decision.

But they did offer. However, I didn't ask - my mistake and I take that on board.

    Thanks again.
