Hi everyone, after my computer became infected with a virus a well known (but not always helpful)shop uploaded the data from it onto a memory stick and then wiped my Pc.

How can I upload the data from the stick back to the pc please?

I have tried everything. I am running Windows Vista Basic. Thanks very much for any answers.

(Just to say that I am rather angry with said repair place as after the repair my pc is no better than before. It took me 7 hours and 5 gos before I was able to down load Libre Office!!!!!!! I spent almost two hours on the phone trying to get to the repair section just for them to tell me that the person who 'repaired' my pc is away on holiday!!!!!!):(:angry:cry::cry:

If you click start, then computer or my computer so you see a list of drives, then insert the USB memory stick, after a minute or so, do you see an additional removeable drive?

If so, right click the newly shown removeable drive, then click scan with your anti - virus programme.

If the scan is clear, double click the removeable drive, do you see a list of the contents of the drive?

If so, select a file or folder, then click edit, click copy to folder.

Or just drag the files you require from the flash drive over to the C drive on your PC. It's not uploading, it's just copying.
No reputable PC repair shop would do a clean install without checking with you first, it's impossible for them to know what dats you have on your PC, and where it is.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • What security software are you using now?

Hi Santer, thank you so much for your excellent post:beer:
But I think that I must have done something wrong because nothing has copied to my computer!!!:(

When I click copy to folder should I be looking for the name of the folder or folder to copy to? Not that I could see that as a possibility when I looked for it.:( Oh dear, what a pickle I am in:cry::cry:

When you click copy to folder, do you see make new folder at the bottom, if so, click that, name the folder and then click copy

Or you could make a new folder first, then when you click copy to folder, look for it in the list

If you create a folder in My Music, then when you click copy to folder, you will probably need to double click libraries, then My Music, then look for the folder you created.

If you do not get the make new folder option, can you post details of what you get when you click copy to folder

With the PC turnen on and running, plug the usb stick into any port, without opening any windows look at the taskbar, bottom right. You should see a usb icon appear, if you wait, your antivirus should kick and ask if you want to scan it, depending on the files which are on the stick you may get a popup window asking if you want to play the mp3's etc.
If nothing appears, then open windows explorer and see if a new drive has appeared.
Are you sure they "cleaned" the computer ?
