Another insurance question Astaroth please?

I am the named driver on my partners insurance. We have included commuting to and from my work place as occasionally I will need the car for work. However, when I asked them how much to include driving to another place from work ie another office, they informed me that I cant do this as I am the named driver.

Now, with out this cover my job will be very difficult as I need to go to this other office every so often. Is there any way I can get extra insurance from another company to get this cover I need.

Can you tell them that you use your vehicle for your job? And you drive for a living?

If not, personally I would just leave it

they informed me that I cant do this as I am the named driver.

Are you sure that they didn't meant that they couldn't do it for you alone i.e. they would have to change the policy for both of you.

Perhaps you have misunderstood and they are saying that you both need to be insured on the same basis.

I would have thought that it quite's normal to not expect the named driver to do MORE driving that the main driver (or require a higher level of cover).

I doubt very much you could get this as an "add-on" but you could change insurance companies. Obviously you'd have to take into account any admin fees, cancellation charges and lack of no claims.

Does anyone else in your organisation do this?
If so ask them who their insurers are.

If your insurance comapny really won't do it and you don't want to change then you should tell your employer that you cannot use your own personal car for travelling between sites.
Personally I wouldn't risk it without insurance.

Let us know how you get one.

You are right lisyloo it is possible that we crossed wires. I should ring back and ask that we upgrade our insurance to business use. I asked them how I could use the car for my work and the lady just flatly told me that its impossible, I assumed due to the conviction. Maybe she thought I meant just for myself.

I'm afraid that leaving our insurance company is out of the question as not only do they not refund pro rata, but also they were the cheapest we could get in our circumstances- partner has a driving conviction. The rest of the insurers were double:shocked:
