One-way car/van Hire - Pick up in London and drop off in Glasgow?

Hey,

My boyfriend is moving from London to Glasgow at the start of September and we're looking into the possibility of hiring a car/van for a one-way trip from London up to Glasgow. He doesn't have a lot of stuff so a car would probably suffice. Thought it would be cheaper to hire a car than for me to drive down from Glasgow and back up but it turns out this is way more confusing than I thought!!!

Most places I've looked (Easycar, Europa) seem to charge a lot for a one-way hire. Cheapest I've found is Hertz at about £80 for a Corsa but it's picking up/dropping off at airports.

Would be looking to pick up anywhere in London (ideally SW London and not central London) on or around the 31st August and dropping off the next day anywhere in Glasgow. Flexible with dates and times.

Anyone have more (well, any) experience of this?

We use them to avoid parking costs at port and airports but chech all the offers sometimes a different one is cheaper ven with the regular one way fee

You can definitely do this as my son's friend did it a few months ago I am pretty sure it was Europecar they used and my son has a background in car hire so he would have done his homework.

Cheapest I can find on Europecar is £103.00 for a Corsa picking up in Wimbledon on 31st Aug and dropping off in Glasgow City Centre on 1st Sept. Is there some sort of trick to finding cheaper prices?

It needs to come out cheaper than the petrol for me driving down my own car from Glasgow to London. Which I think would be about £80.
