capital one credit increase and hsbc rejection

hi couple of questions really i have a capital one credit card with a 500 limit which i have used and am paying 100 a month off by dd so that is going quite well.i am after a credit increase as i would like to go on holiday.i have asked them about an increase and they say that customer accounts are reviewed regularly and contacted if eliguble for an increase.any one had any experiences of capital one?

Also i bank with hsbc and have been with them for 11 years, had loans which have been settle never missed a payment and have had money going into my account for 10 years plus.i applied for a credit card and they rejected. i sent them a emaol saying i was very angry and let down about this as i have been a reliable customer had loans etc and because of this rejection would like to close all my hsbc accounts..i received a signed email back saying they will call me after they have investigated my complaint fully..any ideas what to expect?

thank you

I had the same experience with my Bank ... Nationwide. I too wrote to them and they told me to apply again online which I did and was accepted and given a credit card about 2 weeks later. Good luck and keep trying!

I think you should expect HSBC to close your accounts as requested provided they can decipher your illiterate ramblings.

    A distinct possibility.

OP - make sure you have set up your new accounts, as any DDs etc will start bouncing once HSBC close your accounts. if you start missing payments all over the place, that'll hurt you a lot more than not having a credit card.
  • Credit isn't a right genius.

And I can think of a way you've made it harder for yourself:

Close your acc which you have been with for ages and open a new one. When you apply for another card, they ask how long you have been with your bank. 10 years certainly trumps 2 months. Though not a guarantee of acceptance, a long time at your bank certainly helps.

    Lie and its fraud.

Why not send HSBC an apology for your earlier angry email and ask them to reconsider your application ? Getting angry just makes things worse. In my job, when people threaten to close accounts for silly reasons, i just think to myself, "see ya" !

Wonder if the branch or line manager would have the same attitude.

Here's an idea ... how about saving up first so you can afford what you want to buy?

OP please come back and tell us the outcome, good or bad, it may help other forum members.

It is possible that a computer decision has rejected you and that a human being may look at the application again and you'll get accepted.

Remember though that even if you have banked with them for years, it won't matter if you have late payments, defaults (even settled), a CCJ on your credit report.

You may also not be accepted if they have criteria that you don't meet, such as a certain annual income, age limit, you need to be a householder, on the electoral role etc...

You may even be rejected, if you go into regularly, or live in an overdraft or after your outgoings each month, you have little or nothing left of your incomings into your account.

Another possible rejection, is having too much credit available (even if unused) compared to your annual income.

Finally, I have been accepted for about 90% of credit applications that I have made, in the past 20 years. But I have been rejected by a couple, despite meeting their documented criteria.
