  • I'd jump on a boris bike. They're cheap, reliable and a great way to see the city. If you have a smart phone get the app and you will be able see where the nearest docking stations are.

I had loads of fun with my family on those when I visited.

If he's leaving from Green Park, a walk around Mayfair is the obvious choice.

Bruton Street, 'this is where our Queen was born', Berkeley Square for the nightingales - tell him you just heard one sing, Americans believe stuff like that - then up to Grosvenor Square to show him 'his' embassy.

Striking modern building, and the other story there is they are moving in 2017.

Track back down parallel with Park Lane - show him the Hilton - then into Shepherd's Market, fascinating 'olde world' part of Mayfair, which leaves you handy for Green Park.

Is it chargeable? If so I'd suggest a Black Cab tour.

These guys know EVERYTHING, and they will pick you up and drop you off wherever you want.

If you are near Tower Hill, then the Monument gives pretty good views from the top, if both of you can manage 311 steps. You can show him where the Great Fire of London started in Pudding Lane approx 80 yards away.

Be aware that the Mall is mostly closed (certainly from Horseguards) due to the Olympics and its a fair detour around Pall Mall instead.

Perhaps a quick Tower Bridge tour which means he can go onto the upper part of the bridge with great views.

Take the Thames Clipper from the pier by Tower Bridge to stop at Westminster. Photo opps against the London Eye and Big Ben before a quick hop onto Westminster tube station to change to Piccadilly line at South Kensington.

Id go for a walk with the areas suggested above that are by the river because at the moment the forecast is 28C that day so it will be nice down there with a cool breeze. I've done two boat tours, one was ok, the other was very good with a really good commentary so it can be a bit hit and miss.

The sun's was out yesterday and Landan Town was looking good, lots of Olympic traffic and there's a nice summer feel in London
