Bought a phone for £250+, received one costing £15??

I've bought and sold quite a lot on Ebay but this is the first time I have come across this. I bought a mobile phone for £250+ but I have been sent a different model, spec, network worth peanuts. I opened a case immediately and have escalated it to a claim with Paypal to stop any money changing hands. They sent it by recorded delivery so have a tracking number. I have kept the packaging, as I carefully opened the parcel.

I am getting quite anxious how things will pan out....

Anyone come across anything like this before???

Did you open a SNAD (seriously not as described) claim? If so, when you send it back special delivery you'll be refunded.

I think this is quite common when buying AND selling phones on eBay. My mums partner SOLD a brand new handset on eBay a few years back and person said it wasn't as described, sent it back and had replaced the new handset with an old one. eBay sided with the buyer (as is normal with eBay) so the buyer ended up with new phone and his £300 back.
Definitely get opening a dispute as you will probably get your money back as you are the buyer. Good luck x

SNAD means significantly not as described....

OP start a case and you will be told to return..
Due to the high value of the transaction I would have posted it special delivery, as if it goes awol you are only covered for £43..

It's £46 compensation not £43... Plus if you read the OP he hasn't sent it back yet!

OP, when you get told to send it back, make sure you send it Special Delivery, this is the only RM service that covers you properly.

  • I can't remember exactly what my mums partner done in the end but I do remember the buyer threatening him with the police!? My mums partner has never sold another thing on eBay because he was conned out of a brand new phone and money. When you read forums about selling phones on eBay there are lots and lots of scammers out there, buyers and sellers so you need to be extra careful. I think you stand a really good chance of getting your money back and quite rightly so x

Must be a big business scamming people for phone on ebay, But probably everywhere else also.

Small items, Worth lots and easily sold.

If its barred you can flog them abroad it seems.

They need to do more to block them fully. But i guess the scammers will be hours behind and security they add.
