And remember, you havent done anything wrong, and tell him so if he tried to bully you. And remember you can take your car to any garage you want.
This usually matters only if your car is under warranty and taking it to another garage can invalidate.
That'll serve him right for not putting his handbrake on properly, it could have been a lot worse if kids had been in the way.
Dont forget, deal directly with his insurance company otherwise it will take longer and be more complicated excess wisemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I ended up paying to fix it myself and my insurance company told me that I didn't even need to inform them unless I was claiming through them
EDIT: Just realised that may have been due to the fact there wasn't another car involved?
It's more likely to be because they understand the complete impossibility of policing the "tell us everything" term.
Yes, the contract says you must, and yes, you'll be in breach if you don't, but in practice there's absolutely no way for them to know in mkost cases if you're involved in an incident (fault or no-fault) which is settled without their involvement.
That's not quite so cut-and-dried if someone else is involved because you can rarely be 100% sure they won't go to theirs.0 -

Well tell him the choice is to pay the rental (around £12-£15 a day) or higher insurance premiums for the next 5 years because you'll put in a claim.0 -
Before you insist on going through his insurance, remember he is only liable if he is negligent. If he wasn't, say the handbrake cable broke, his insurance won't pay. I'd take the money before he realised he could just walk away.0

But if a handbrake cable broke, surely that is down to negligence ie non maintenance of the vehicle.
Anyway the other fell is probably ignorant of this anyway so I would just keep quiet/forget about it and go ahead.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

He must be. He's offered to pay. His insurer won't be though. As to maintenance, you'd be hard pushed to prove he know it was going to break, and hadn't fixed it. Even inspecting it daily wouldn't find it if it had gone somewhere not visible.0 -
If said neighbour lives on hill as quoted then he should have done two things kept the car in gear to prevent rolling and pointed the tyres towards the curb again to stop rolling.
Any decent motorist would do that as a matter of instinct when parking on a hill. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
