Which Mechanic to trust?
Options
Our car has had a burning smell coming from under the bonnet since yesterday. A friend has suggested it could be a clutch problem. In any case, I wondered how people chose the mechanics they use?
We have a Honda and know that the Honda official place will charge over 3x as much to fix anything. There is a Halfords repair place, Kwik Fit and a few independents locally but don't know where to start in calling round and asking for quotes let alone trusting anyone! can anyone give me some pointers where to start?? we live in the west london area...
cheers

thank you for your responses.
Marlot, we kind-of know what the problem *could* be. There is a burning smell coming from the engine, which I gather could be a number of things. I just wanted to know where to take the car, I am at loss and wanted to know whether people just take their cars to the local Kwik fit or not, and if not why not...0 -

too many horror stories, with them, just search this forum,
ask around at work/neighbours, for a local garage/mechanic.
To see if it is the clutch, start the car, put the handbrake on and select 1st gear and SLOWLY go to drive away,if the clutch is bad the engine wont stall straight away as the plate will slipIMOJACAR

There's a good garage that I trust in the Fulham area called G&L Motors - 020 7731 1035. They seem very reasonable and are always very helpful.
Hope all goes well with the car!0 -
