I dont know what I want to do when I grow up

This is how I was for years! I didn't have many friends, a problem with food (and still now sometimes
), no career prospects as I didn't know what I wanted to do!
I've very recently (like in the last month!) joined the gym, enrolled on a course that starts in September and have been making much more of an effort to socialise. It's hard, it is, but I think finding my determination along with a few other things that happened in my life has really been a blessing.
I also try to be as frugal as I can whilst doing all these things. I have a crappy admin job like so many others and debts that I'm paying off but I try and make saving money a fun game - cue how sad are you comments :rotfl:
Also, the best thing about all the change in my life, is how good I feel about myself for actually getting off my a*se and doing it!!!
Best of luck

All you thirty somethings out there - I'm 49 and still don't know what I want to do when I grow up! I fought my way through my degree, 'fell' into teaching as a stop gap - stayed there 10 years. Then, after redundancy, thought what an opportunity to do something different. Nope, applied for 1 job (as a LA tutor) and lo and behold got the job!
Now I know I should be grateful in the present economic climate, but a part of me thinks doh!0 -
That's me too at the age of 42. Drifted into admin and have always been capable of more yet continue to support others to be more and more successful instead of bigging myself up and going for it. Why do we do it, I just don't know. I haven't yet found anything that inspires me enough to move out of my comfort zone in the realms of scary and exciting. Like you though, I feel dreadfully unhappy and cross with myself for not being brave. There ought to be a degree in 'being brave and believing in yourself' - we'd all benefit from that :-)11th Heaven prizes Number 103

This is me too! I'm 48 doing an open degree with the OU but still not sure where its going to lead in the long term. I second the post about poor careers advice, I was put off doing what I wanted to do at 16 by a careers advisor who thought I should aim higher and now I really wish I'd ignored them. Trouble is the careers advice given out now is no different and possibly worse. DS3 has just left school and has been given little information or help and some of the info is wrong anyway.Frump to Fab - Solstice Sizzler

Me too! I'm 33 and hate my job. I'm reasonably qualified (degree, and some professional stuff) but nothing that stands out or is specific.
I feel like if I just knew what I wanted to do I'm sure I'd have the guts to go and do it, the problem is I have literally no idea what I want.
My job is relocating soon so I have to choose between a massive (3hrs + daily) commute to a job I hate, or redundancy. I'd go for redundancy and look for something else but we're trying for a family so I'm hanging on here just for the maternity benefits. Just wish I had a crystal ball that could tell me if it's ever going to happen, because if it isn't I could take the money and run.
Am so bored!! It's quite a relief to write it down somewhere. I have one busy week a month then the rest of the time I literally have nothing to do. I sit here for 9ish hours a day just playing on the internet and trying to look busy.0 -
This sounds like me as well. I never knew what I wanted to do and so just drifted into the first availiable job and stayed in that kind of job ever since. Its boring and I hate, it but it pays the bills so I am thankful to have a job. Now I have decided to get even and its pay back to all those rubbish job ! I am going to start up my own business and use the experience I have in the rubish jobs to my own benefit !
If money allows then I would try and turn away from what beings in the most money or has the best status. Think of something you enjoy and see if you can find something related to that. Work take up so much of your life you deserve to enjoy it. Even if it pays less thats worth it if you are happy and motivated. The rest will follow. Good luck.0
