Seller changing PP account

We bought something worth about £20 on ebay, after paying for it, the seller emailed us and said he'd made a mistake on the email he put on the auction and sent us another PP email invoice.
This seems a bit dodgy. although it might be he is just trying to get out of ebay fees.
He wants us to cancel the transaction on ebay.
My gut feeling is that I don't want to do it, as we then have no contract through ebay and PP for this sale.
Interested to hear your thoughts and what I should say to him?

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Have you sent any money to them at all? If not, then check Ebay for what you should be paying against what seller says you owe. They should match. Have had to send 2nd invoice myself once or twice, so it does happen.
If all is as it should be then pay using 2nd invoice.0 -

Does your original payment show as claimed or unclaimed? If unclaimed then just recall it and wait for it to go back to the payment source and pay again.
As long as you pay for named goods you are covered.
If payment shows as claimed then you cannot cancel it as it has gone to a valid PayPal address.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The original payment we made is unclaimed, but the new invoice he sent has no reference to the ebay transaction.
Therefore it seems if something goes wrong with the transaction, we have no comeback to ebay.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Normally it's recommended you go to PayPal not eBay anyway, so as long as the invoice is for goods you're covered by PayPal seller protection. I'd just do as the seller asked. unless of course, the payment is requested as a gift paymentLotus-eater wrote: »The original payment we made is unclaimed, but the new invoice he sent has no reference to the ebay transaction.

I've just had another look and it is an invoice and it does have the ebay transaction number as the description.Obviously_the_best wrote: »Normally it's recommended you go to PayPal not eBay anyway, so as long as the invoice is for goods you're covered by PayPal seller protection. That will be fine, but don't repay until you have your first payment back first.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks, the other payment was OK, it wasn't claimed and I've just cancelled it. I don't think they can take any money on that now. That will be fine, but don't repay until you have your first payment back first.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
