Best Washing Machine?

Anyone know the best washing machine to buy? After my long working trusty Zanussi Jetsystem which kept working perfectly for 20 years has now given up the ghost I need to buy another. I don't mind if it costs a bit as I want a good quality one with a top spin (1600 rpm) hopefully and a triple A energy saving is preferred with quick wash facility. I am sure there is one out there which is very reliable. Can anyone help with any info?

Check out Which? If you don't get it, or don't know anyone who does, they're in the library.

Depends on your budget, but I have no hesitation in recommending an ISE machine: http://www.iseappliances.co.uk/products/washing-machines/w256w-washing-machine.html

I've got the previous 1607W model. It's built like a tank, washes quickly and thoroughly. They're pretty much the only machines left that are built like they used to be, and designed to be repairable for a reasonable price when they eventually do go wrong. 10 years parts and labour warranty too :-)

    Might be worth a read.

And this it uses miele washing machines as the example but affects all brands/products proportionally.

How will you use it, young family loads of washing or light user little washing?

If you can buy 3 cheap ones and they last as long does it really matter? (Enviromentally they get largely recycled).

Styles move on as does technology. Lower power and water use is key in this world of increasing consumption costs. Locking into a "premium" brand may not always be desirable.

I was certainly happy to replace my Hotpoint (with another one) after 17 years service a few years back - almond and square had its time and place.

Do not buy a Zanussi machine.
All Zanussi machines have now got noisy water pumps. The machine is lovely and quiet until it has to pump water out. Zanussi refuse to refund the product as the noise level is in the full spec of the machine. As if we know what 79db will sound like. The noise on all zanussi washing machines is horrific due to its pump. Confirmed also by their technicians. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid all Zanussi Washing Machines.
Try the LG ones instead, they are so quiet all the time and great warranty and super efficient.

What ever you buy it won't be as good as the 1 you bought 20 years ago.

    That's the bad news.

Good news is what you paid 20 years ago will now buy you 3 brand new washers in real terms.

Things have moved on, built in obsolescence is now an accepted factor in the price/life of every thing, go along with it ;););)

Average washing Machines today are designed for obsolescence. A life cycle of 5 years is reasonable, some of the cheaper ones wont achieve that.

Then consider the other end of the scale Miele and Siemens etc they are generally costly but can come with a 10 year guarantee. The downside i see with that is technology moves on a lot in 10 years so they can become less efficient and more costly to run over time.

Given the above i tend to go for a relatively low cost machine from John Lewis or similar with a 5 year guarantee. I figure its ok for that long then replace it with another - same principle same guarantee etc.

So in other words i wouldn't be to concerned about the make as long as its half decent with good back up. The JL own models fit that criteria well for us.

I have had 2 Hotpoint machines. 1 lasted over 12 years. The 2nd is now 6.5 years old and still healthy. I am replacing it but only because I am getting a new kitchen and want an integrated one. I am trying Blomberg (from Euronics) for the 1st time, partly because they give a 3 year guarantee.

The main drum bearings went on my last machine, can't recall if it was whirlpool or zanussi. It was only 3 years old.

Bought the bearing kit online and when it arrived I started to strip out the machine only to find the drum, which has to be separated into it's two halves to replace said bearings, was a thermo-plastically welded 1. Washer to skip.

Returned the bearings, the comment from the seller, "Oh, another 1 that's started doing that, putting me out of business".

Sorry meant to edit me post not quote it.

We've had a Miele washing machine for knocking on for 10 years now and it's been excellent. Hasn't skipped a beat!
